My most recent trip to South America started my love affair with dulce de leche. Growing up in the states it was mostly something I had written off but South America changed my mind and the biggest player in that change of mind was probably Uruguay (surprising right?). Here are three dulce de leche treats you MUST try in Montevideo:
Cafe “Galeano” at Cafe Brasilero: A coffee drink with a base of dulce de leche and amaretto topped with cream. I was told by my free walking tour that this drink is a “must try” when in Montevideo.
Bonbon at Cabana Veronica: Lierally just called bonbon on the menu this magical treat is worth hunting down! A mix of dulce de leche and chocolate puddings with brownie bits every bite is incredible. I was so surprised by this treat but it was so so good!
Alfajor at La Gambuza: Both the lemon and chocolate alfajores are incredible. I’m such a sucker for chocolate that it’s what I went with but my friend said the lemon one was equally delicious.
