I think a really fair question to ask before traveling to Grand Cayman is, “How expensive will it be?” Here is the honest answer for what I spent for each element of my trip to Grand Cayman. If you’re looking to do Grand Cayman on a budget (it’s tricky) but you can check out this post for some suggestions!
How Expensive is Grand Cayman?
In Grand Cayman they use Cayman Dollars which are worth more than the USD (sorry Americans) however I list prices here in approximate USD. The simplest answer to "How expensive is Grand Cayman?" would be "very." But I will go ahead and break it down for you. And like I mentioned earlier, if you are looking for some ways to do Grand Cayman for a little cheaper check out my post here.
Obviously flight costs are subjective to where you live, I don't think that flights are any more expensive than any other Caribbean island, in fact, it's probably one of the cheaper ones to fly to.
Lodging: $170 per night
I stayed in the Comfort Suites which is probably one of the cheapest places on the 7 mile beach. You can definitely pay more but I don't know if you would really get more (other than a more aesthetically pleasing room). The Comfort Suites has free breakfast (which cuts down overall cost) and all beaches are public so just because you aren't staying at a certain (fancier) place doesn't mean you can't go to their beach. Plus you can always go get a meal at any of those restaurants like I did at the Marriott (it even made my list of Top 5 Grand Cayman Experiences)
Getting from the airport to your hotel by taxi will probably be about $20 (perhaps more if you are really far) but if you decide to use the public bus it's only $2.50 per person. Or if you want to, you can just walk places, the island isn't that big and walking is free :) (also if you take any tours or do any activities the cost usually includes being picked up from your hotel)
You can in fact get a cheap meal in Grand Cayman...I did a post about Cayman on the cheap here. You can also get a really good meal for around $100 (or more!) I would say to plan about $10 for breakfast, $15-20 for lunch, and $30-$40 for an average dinner. If you're wanting a drink plan on $8-15 per drink, if you need suggestions for what cocktails to try you can check out this post.
All beaches are public beaches so hanging out at a beach is totally free. If you bring your own snorkel gear it is another free activity that you can do all over the island. A trip to stingray city will be around $25-50 depending on what other stops (if any) you make. A tour of Cayman Spirit Co is $15 per person unless you find a discount (which I did!) And if you want to get SCUBA certified (which I highly recommend) it will cost around $400.
