Colorado Springs is a city with some generous business who are looking to get you in the door of their establishment. One of the key ways they are doing this is by offering free drinks. Moving to Colorado I was amazed at the amount of opportunities to get a free drink and figured it would be knowledge worth sharing with the world, so here you go:
The buy one get one is a very popular sales strategy here in Colorado Springs. I was going to give you a list of some of my favorite options but quite a few of them come up in some of the other things on this list.
Crafts and Drafts through Visit Colorado Springs (available June-December)
This one might be my favorite of the things on this list because it is straight up free drinks, no catch. With the Crafts and Drafts passport available online through Visit Colorado Springs you enter in your email and then receive a list offers from local breweries, distilleries, and coffee shops ranging from a free tour and tasting at Colorado Gold distillery, to buy one get one at places like Loyal and Axe and the Oak, to 10% off purchases at certain places.
Passport Program through Passport Program (available in various forms year round)
The Passport is a book you purchase for $20 but offers lots of BOGO offers and other solid deals throughout Colorado Springs. These typically release seasonally and a quick google search will help you find the current book.
Downtown Discount Book
Available off and on through out the year check with the visitor center on on Tejon or in Acacia park to see if one is available. The Discount book last winter had BOGO at Lee’s Spirit Co and BOGO at Story Coffee (as well as lots of other great deals in the downtown stores).
I’m not much into the club scene but if that’s your jam, ladies nights are often a solid way to get free drinks. Check with local clubs for more info.
This one is pretty involved but Colorado has a Spirits Trail, if you visit every place on the trail in 2019 you will relieve 2 bottles at random from the participating distilleries and will be entered into a monthly drawing to win 40 bottles.
Brewery and Distillery Tours
Colorado Gold offers free tasting and tour, Axe and the Oak will let you sample their whiskies if you have never been in before. Bristol Brewery has an occasional free brewery tour as does
Happy Hour Specials
Many local businesses offer 2 for 1 happy hour drinks or severely discounted drinks. To take advantage of this offer just google Happy Hour at your favorite local establishment. But here are a few of my favorites (if you know of other really great happy hours please let me know in the comments section!);
Lu’au’s taco shop. M-F, 3-6pm. 2 for $6 beers and margs.
Axe and the Oak. M-S, 4-7pm. $6 select cocktails.
Principals Office. M all day, T-F 3-6pm. $2 off wine and beer, $7 select cocktails.
Odyssey Gastropub. 4-6pm. $3 house wine also lots of discount bites.
Wobbly Olive: M-F, 4-6pm. $6 speciality martinis, 1/2 off bottled beer, $5 house wine, $2 off food.
First Friday is an art walk that happens every First Friday downtown, in Old Colorado City and in Manitou. It is a great way to check out some local artists and galleries in town. During First Friday many of the galleries will pour free wine for visitors over 21 in hopes of keeping you in the shop longer (and maybe to help loosen up the purse strings). If you are looking for a local activity with free snacks and likely free wine this one is for you.
291 Labeling Party
spend a day helping to label 291’s delicious whiskey and you will be rewarded with free pizza and a bottle of your choice (excluding barrel proof and special releases) a great way to keep drinking for free if you don’t mind spending a few hours labeling bottles.
If you attend local festivals (like Taste of Pikes Peak) local restaurants often offer a free drink with food purchase or other killer deals in hopes of getting you in the door. So be sure to support our local events and you may be handsomely rewarded!
Go For a Run
Lots of our local 5ks have a beer sponsor that serves free beer to participants. Participate in one and then reward yourself with a “free” drink after!
Take an Educational Class
Downtown Fine Wine and Spirits & European Wines and Spirits often offer free educational classes. If you participate you get to taste some of their offerings (but the hope is obviously that you will make a purchase).
As with any blog post info is subject to change, make sure to check ahead of time. And please drink responsibly!
