Rio de Janiero was super surprising for me. I had no idea it was a city with so much adventure. I think it is easily is in my top 10 cities in the world (seems like a post I should write…stay tuned!). But now back to why you are here, some tips for your time in Rio de Janiero:
See the city from the sea. I did this on an Airbnb experience where I woke up early and went out on an outrigger canoe. It was a super cool experience and the city from the water is exceptionally beautiful in the morning.
When you go up to the statue of Christ Redeemer sit on the downward facing said of the tram. On the way up there are some great view points that are much more accessible to you if you happen to be on that side of the tram.
See the Christ Redeemer super early. The lighting is better in the morning and there are less people crowding into your photos. Make sure you go on a clear day or you won’t see anything from up there.
Go to the breakfast “buffets”. This was recommended to me by my Airbnb host and it was definitely a win. Lots of grocery stores in Rio de Janiero have a breakfast buffet that you pay for by weight. It is a great way to get to try lots of new and local things at a super reasonable price.
Use the bikes as your main mode of transportation You can rent bikes in the city though the Itau app. it is a fun and very affordable way to get around the local neighborhoods.
Take a free walking tour. Free walking tours are one of the best ways to get acquainted with a new city.
There is an alternative way of doing almost every touristy attraction, find the better way and avoid the crowds. For example, see the city from the water for a great view or. Instead of taking the gondola up Pao de Azucar climb up it with a guide. Be creative, it’s such a fun city!
