If you decided to do Montevideo as a day trip from Buenos Aires you probably are looking for some easy guaranteed food wins. I’ve got you covered. Here is a little food tour you can take yourself on with some of my best recommendations!
Start your food journey with coffee because I believe all good days start with coffee. La Farmacia Cafe is a great place for a coffee because it has a super rad vibe and really delicious coffee.
For lunch you have to do asado…Uruguay and Argentina are in a bit of a brotherly competition about who has the best asado, the only way to find out for yourself is by trying both. I recommend Cabana Veronica; get meat but also try the mezzo/mezzo (read more about drinks in Montevideo here) and leave room for the bonbon (it even made the list of best dulce de leche treats in South America which you can read about here)
Next it’s time for wine tasting. Head to The Montevideo Wine Experience to try some local wines. I had some delicious and very unexpected reds but the knowledgeable staff can help you find something to suit your personal taste.
Finally you’re going to want to end the day with dessert! Head to La Gambuza for an alfajor, they are delicious and so well made!
And there you have it, a solid day of food recommendations for Montevideo, Uruguay!
